More about me

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1985 and this was the start of my 40+ years caring/supporting those with illness and disability.  I have always had a passion for end of life care and this evolved further when I did the Gold Standards Framework back in 2011 and I merged this with my other interests in Dementia care.  I have continued to study to improve my skills and when I recently completed the End of Life Doula Foundation course I knew I wanted to regain my focus in this area again. I am currently supporting care home services to improve their standards of end of life care, especially those with adults who are neurodivergent.  Advance care planning is another area I enjoy supporting people with, so we can ensure we get things right for when the time comes and still support people to live well, as well as die well.   My goals for the future are to become more skilled in ACP and I have signed up for further training with EOL Doula UK to do this in September.

I am currently self employed and have been since 2019, taking my management expertise from the care home industry into supporting services to improve their delivery of care and meet regulations and industry standards.   Person centred care is always my focus, and I believe I am a skilled coach and mentor in this area. I have developed trust with clients, as their services are recognised as improving with the support and input they have received from me.

I am a good communicator and have improved my skills in listening and holding space whilst on the LDWD training course.  I believe I am a people person, I have the ability to discover what is needed to support people, find out their needs and ensure these are met.

Outside of work, I am a keen traveller with my husband recently ticking off many destinations on our bucket list.  I have a season ticket at Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and I share this passion with my grandson who has become a massive fan of the club.  Being a Nana is very important to me, as is family life and I support both of my children with childcare to two wonderful grandchildren.  My very happy place is my garden; I am an amateur gardener- and as a believer of self-care this is where I get my most downtime ( if I am not travelling!)

  • As the Registered Manager of two residential services for adults with learning disabilities, I have seen first-hand the difference Sharon has made with her passion for end of life care. Her calm and compassionate approach, along with her thoughtful advice has provided reassurance not only to the residents we support but also to their families and our staff team.Sharon takes the time to truly understand each resident’s communication style, preferences and emotional needs, ensuring they feel safe, respected and included at every step of their journey. She has a natural ability to connect and bring comfort, even in moments of uncertainty, and she openly shares her knowledge, enabling us to provide more tailored, person-centred support. Her vast experience has helped our staff feel more confident and better equipped in delivering end-of-life care. Knowing that Sharon is there to guide and advise us brings great peace of mind.I am deeply grateful for the dignity, warmth and professionalism Sharon brings to our services. Her involvement has become an invaluable part of our care community and has opened up conversations that were previously difficult to approach.”
