Hello my name is Ruth and I am based in East Devon. I worked as a Registered Nurse for 26 years, then as an ordained minister for 22 years, in which time it has been my honour and privilege to journey with people as they and their loved ones have approached dying and death, whether physical, emotional or spiritual.
For me, I value and treasure the connection with people, and to recognize the tender moments and encounters on a person’s final journey.
Death is part of our human journey and being a Doula with End of life Doula UK and Devon based ‘Dying with Grace’ enables me to walk with people, surround them with Love and blessing, and be in a holy place, that transforms fear to gentleness, emptiness to appreciation and tears to gratitude… until they are at peace.
I now work part time as a Chaplain in a care home in Exmouth, and interested in teaching and modeling carers and relatives how to support people in their emotional and spiritual needs as their residents and loved ones approach the end of life.
I see my role as being a loving ‘friend in death’, to enable and support their family and friends to feel at ease, to provide a safe space to cry and to share memories, and to enable a person–centred Death – this is my prime concern and calling.
I am a widow, with two daughters and two grandchildren who live in East Devon.
